On AI
I don’t know what AI is doing to us. I feel like I use AI more than most people. I’m a technology guy and was fascinated by the first release of ChatGPT. It was a novelty then. I led an initiative to implement Google Gemini at my previous company. I have been using Anthropic’s Claude lately. It’s really remarkable. It’s still wrong a lot, but it’s right a lot too. It also is able to do things now. I’ve built websites, scheduled appointments, researched tons of topics.
I worry about the dependency.
I tell myself it’s no different from depending on Google to find information, but that doesn’t feel quite right. I don’t know if people are capable of not anthropomorphizing something that seems so human. We all name our robot vacuums and treat them like pets. We apologize to Alexa when we say something wrong. We ask AI bots to do things with a please and thank you.
I think AI is going to be transformative. I worry about what gets transformed and what comes next.
